"The Sunshine City" is known for its almost constant cloudless days and gorgeous warm weather. St. Petersburg was founded in 1888 and named after Saint Petersburg, Russia where Peter Demens--an instrumental contributor to the city's formation--spent several years of his childhood. The area continued to grow in the shipping industry and eventually in tourism attracting reitree's, families and young people from all over the country.
